Top Layer Networks Intrusion Prevention System Blocks UPnP RPC Denial of Service Attacks

Top Layer Networks, the global leader for high performance intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that its IPS 5500 intrusion prevention system protects customers from Microsoft’s recently announced RPC vulnerability. TopResponse’s automated update service delivers this protection with Protection Pack 2005-11-18-01.

Late on Wednesday, November 16, Microsoft warned Windows users that proof-of-concept code was in circulation that could remotely and anonymously exploit a vulnerability on Windows 2000 machines. Windows XP SP1 is somewhat less vulnerable, according to Microsoft, though these users still are at some risk. This code—when continuously executed against a vulnerable target—can potentially cripple the attacked host.
