AirMagnet Delivers Remote Wireless LAN Analysis Solution for Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network

AirMagnet Inc., the award-winning leader in wireless network assurance solutions, announced the release of a major new software product, Enterprise Analyzer for Cisco, designed from the ground up for customers of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network. The Enterprise Analyzer for Cisco works with already-deployed Cisco lightweight access points (APs) to collect wireless data for real-time analysis and optional reporting, as well as provides network tools to help optimize Wi-Fi performance. Real-time analysis can be done anywhere in the Cisco network, including remote locations.

“AirMagnet’s Enterprise Analyzer makes it possible for us to leverage our clients’ existing infrastructures to perform wireless analyses,” said Greg Taylor, senior wireless consultant at INS, one of the world’s leading providers of business-driven, information technology consulting and software solutions. “We work with clients who have hundreds or even thousands of access points, and this new breed of analyzer from AirMagnet enables us to reach out to any corner of those networks and perform analyses to maximize network performance.”

Leverages Deployed Lightweight Cisco Access Points

Via the Enterprise Analyzer software interface, users can perform analysis on the network by triggering a lightweight AP to behave in “sniffer” mode to collect live traffic data on all networks channels and AP stations, and then route the data back to the Enterprise Analyzer for analysis and alarm generation. Any lightweight access point within the Cisco network — even at remote locations — can be utilized in this manner for real-time analysis.

“This collaboration extends the value of wireless investments by leveraging AirMagnet’s Wi-Fi performance and active analysis expertise,” said Ben Gibson, director of mobility solutions at Cisco. “The benefit of expert wireless LAN analysis is removing the variables found in Wi-Fi environments that impact performance. AirMagnet helps customers maintain optimal network performance at all times – on the industry’s most secure wireless infrastructure, a winning combination for our customers.”

“The wireless analysis AirMagnet has provided has given us the ability to improve network performance and better leverage our investment in Cisco’s wireless infrastructure,” said Joe DiVito, network manager for Atlantic Health.

Expert AirWISE Wireless LAN Analysis

The Enterprise Analyzer features AirMagnet’s signature AirWISE intelligence engine, which continually analyzes the wireless environment for more than 130 wireless factors, such as signal, noise, and interference issues, congested APs and channels, and device configurations that can impact network performance. The information is then displayed in a coherent, easy-to-understand graphic user interface. AirWISE® eliminates the need for manual and time-consuming investigation by automatically auditing wireless traffic, devices, channels and RF information to identify the root cause of any impacting event. AirWISE alarms provide detailed explanations of the environment, and even offer potential best practices for optimal operation.

Remote Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Tools

The AirMagnet Enterprise Analyzer includes a suite of tools that allow network managers to remotely test various network elements. A connectivity diagnostic tool can be used to view the step-by-step progress of a connection to pinpoint where the process is falling below threshold limits, or eliminates the client-AP relationship as the cause for performance weaknesses. Network managers can also perform detailed signal analysis to reveal potential multipath pitfalls, and even test jitter to solve voice-related issues between wireless IP phones and access points.

Proactive Wireless LAN Management

Enterprise Analyzer 3.0 also adds a number of features for complete wireless LAN management:

* Context-Driven Expert Advice found in more than 100 pages covering common WLAN problems and recommended solutions, which allow users to extend their wired network expertise to WLANs
* New Interference Analysis Page tracks three unique sources of interference including bandwidth competition from other Wi-Fi devices, hidden stations and RF noise and interference – ensuring users can always identify the real cause of interference problems
* Session Saving and Playback lets users record entire troubleshooting sessions, and decode and save packets in real time for later analysis
* Optional Professional Policy and Compliance Reporting with more than 50 customizable reports for common policy requirements and industry-specific regulations

“Network administrators expect their wireless networks to behave as well as their wired counterparts, but the reality is that wireless networks are more susceptible to changes in the RF environment, which makes them difficult to manage and can lead to unexpected performance or security issues,” said Dean Au, chief executive officer of AirMagnet. “By integrating with Cisco’s widely deployed network devices, AirMagnet enables seamless wireless LAN analysis and troubleshooting, which keeps networks running at optimal levels and adds tremendous value to enterprises’ wireless infrastructure investment.”
